Art Abounds at the Annual Gaslamp Art Showcase

By M. Victoria Lee

For those with an artistic hunger, the Gaslamp Quarter offers the perfect recipe to quench your creative cravings. The Gaslamp Art Showcase exhibits beautiful artwork from more than 150 artists.

The event is comprised of three distinctive art shows. The Reflection Art Show is a great gathering of local artists. Under the historic Gaslamp Quarter archway, Fifth Avenue comes to life with the works of painters, photographers, and much more.

The Spyglass Art Exhibit and the Kaleidoscope Art Tour within gorgeous Gaslamp Quarter venues are unique experiences. Gaslamp businesses and local artists team up to create fascinating installations sure to catch your eye. At last year’s event, many Gaslamp art galleries joined the mix.

For the Spyglass Art Exhibit, Exclusive Collections Fine Art Gallery opened their doors to display an assortment of sculptures, glassworks and a wide array of avant-garde paintings. The gallery staff boasts a combined 200 years of experience with fine art.

During the Kaleidoscope Art Tour, guests visited Gaslamp art galleries and rooftop lounges where they enjoyed artistic works paired with fine wines and spirits. Five Gaslamp galleries joined in for the tour.

Michael J. Wolf Fine Art Gallery offered guests the chance to meet artists Pete Tillack and Trevor Mezak, as well as view many other works from up and coming artists both national and international. This gallery won the 2008 Lamplighter Award for Favorite Fine Art Gallery.

Located on Fourth Avenue, the CJ Gallery showcased the work of many contemporary Asian artists. Attention-grabbing paintings and sculptures were exhibited for guests to ponder and explore.

Oil paintings and conceptual works of art were encountered at The Art of Tim Cantor gallery. This exquisite venue features the exclusive collection of the renowned artist who has been painting since the age of six. The gallery is presented by Ashby Galleries.

For an eclectic mix, guests visited Shorelines Gallery featuring Sticks. The collection includes works from more than 100 artists. An enticing selection of glassworks, jewelry, sculptures, and even furniture can be found at this Gaslamp Quarter treasure chest.

Siamak Art Gallery is home to the works of the artist simply known as Siamak. Visitors toured the gallery and ventured into a world of traditional, impressionistic, yet abstract paintings and drawings. Siamak’s goal is to present the familiar in new and exciting ways.

This year’s Gaslamp Art Showcase takes place in March. But, you don’t have to wait for our annual art event to visit and see these amazing works. The art galleries of the Gaslamp Quarter are open to the public on a regular basis. With so many choices, there’s sure to be something to satisfy your artistic appetite.
