Taste of Gaslamp
By Colleen K. Cotter
Each summer, the Gaslamp Quarter hosts a friendly competition designed to showcase some of San Diego’s best dining. For an entire weekend, guests are invited to enjoy a pub-crawl of sorts. Multiple Gaslamp restaurants prepare an enticing small dish for the event. Ticket holders receive a map of participating restaurants and are then free to explore the Gaslamp Quarter and sample the wide variety of foods. This urban dining adventure is known as the Taste of Gaslamp. Chefs from some of the Gaslamp Quarter’s finest restaurants such as Dick’s Last Resort and Oceanaire Seafood Room give their finest effort, preparing a dish to be proud of. The food is consistently interesting and delicious, with a wide variety of cuisines offered in the Gaslamp Quarter including American, Indian, Mexican, Asian, Delicatessens, Eclectic, Italian, Mediterranean, Persian, and much more. Participating restaurants feature some of their most popular dishes, some old favorites and some new creations. While the Gaslamp Quarter is famous for its dining, many San Diegans have not had the opportunity to experience all of its offerings. The Taste of Gaslamp is a fun and inexpensive opportunity for San Diego locals and visitors to experience Gaslamp Quarter dining and discover new gourmet opportunities! In a sense, it is a way to “date” Gaslamp Quarter restaurants before making a formal commitment to dine. This June, buy your tickets early. The Taste of Gaslamp sells out in advance every year. Invite friends and neighbors to come to the Gaslamp Quarter, enjoy its atmosphere, and experience some of the best cuisine San Diego has to offer. After experiencing all that the Gaslamp Quarter has to offer, you will want to come back to great locations such as Dussini Mediterranean Bistro, Bondi, The Field, Mister Tiki Mai Tai Lounge, or any of the wide variety of Gaslamp Quarter restaurants all year round.
