Famous yachtsman Dennis Conner has commited his 3 famous yachts to run 7 days weekly throughout the San Diego summer of 2009. "That's right", says spokesperson Warren Allan of "Dennis Conner's America's Cup Experience" "We've typically only made the yachts available about 3 days a week on an "as they fill" basis. What that means is that if our most popular yacht 'Stars & Stripes' does fill up with 20 passengers only then will we add the 2nd yacht and give guests the ultimate opportunity of an America's Cup style match race, the ultimate sailing thrill. However for this summer from May 2nd we will make both yachts available every day so that no matter what the number of guests we will aways give them this amazing "race" opportunity." For San Diego locals and visitors alike this is awesome news. The amazing thing about this experience is that San Diego is the ONLY place in America that you can race on two 'current generation' 80 ft authentic America's Cup yachts. The older style yachts are up to 72 Ft. These yachts under the current rules are called "International America's Cup Class" IACC and are up to 80 Ft. San Diego and Newport, RI are the only places in America to host the America's Cup so it is very satisfying to see these yachts racing daily on San Diego's beautiful bay. "We make every effort to involve all guests in the operation of the yachts...it is definately as hands-on as guests want it to be. Camera's are clicking as guests take their turn in "Testosterone Alley" the affectionate name for the coffee grinder stations that trim in the huge sails. Guests also take turns at the helm as we race through the bay." says Allan. At a mere $49 for our 1.5 hour sail and $99 per adult for our 2.5 hour races, (half price for 12 and under) that is a value like none other.
"The thing about this summer is that we want to show the public that we are available to them - that these handsome yachts that they have seen on TV are not just here for show. They are here to use, to deliver dreams to those who have watched us on ESPN and other TV stations over the years. Not only are these two race yachts "Stars & Stripes" and "Abracadabra" available but Dennis is commited to taking the beautiful 139 Ft yacht "America" for a sunset sailing excursion those same 7 days of the week." says Allan. True to form the "America" is as beautiful as she is famous and a sail on her is a once in a lifetime pleasure. At 139 Ft and gleaming from bow to stern you'll not find a more pleasant sailing experience anywhere. The trips on "America" are from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm and cost $85 for adults and $40 for children 12 & under. These trips will quite regularly get out to the edge of the ocean for a rarely-seen view back to the city but ultimately the sailing is in sheltered waters with that 'cocktail sail' atmosphere. The rate includes soft beverages and nice snacks, cheese / crackers, etc. Guests are welcome to BYO wine or beer to finish off the atmosphere. We have a 'bar' for those inclined.
