Rolling Safari: An Off-Road Experience
Visitors to the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park can take the path less traveled on the two-hour Rolling Safari Tour, a journey on a Segway X2, an off-road two-wheeled electric personal transporter.
Adventurers will roll past herds of African and Asian animals on a scenic route. The Segway X2 is specifically designed for off-road travel and allows guests a new, enjoyable way to explore areas not accessible by foot.
Guests will learn how to ride the Segway X2s and practice before joining a guide on a tour, rolling quietly past Indian rhinos, giraffes, Arabian oryx and more. In small groups of seven or less, riders can stop at scenic points along the way for amazing photo opportunities.
The Rolling Safari tour was added to the exciting array of special experiences at the Wild Animal Park in 2008.
Rolling Safari tour participants must be at least 13 years of age and weigh between 100 and 250 pounds. Ages 13–15 must be accompanied by a paid adult. Secure shoes are required. Pregnant women and people with heart conditions, nervous disorders, back or neck injuries or a propensity to motion sickness and pregnant women should not participate on the Rolling Safari Tour.

The 1,800-acre San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park is operated by the not-for-profit San Diego Zoo and includes a 900-acre native species reserve. The organization focuses on conservation and research work around the globe, educates millions of individuals a year about wildlife and maintains accredited horticultural, animal, library and photo collections. The Zoo also manages the San Diego Zoo in downtown San Diego, and the San Diego Zoo’s Institute for Conservation Research. The important conservation and science work of these entities is supported in part by The Foundation of the Zoological Society of San Diego.
