GoCar Tours FAQs
GoCar scooters that talk to you
By GPS self-guided tours
Q: What is a “GoCar”?
A: GoCar is the world’s first computer/GPS guided storytelling car. The clever talking car navigates for you. But that’s not all: As you drive, it points out the sights and tells you the stories that bring San Diego to life.
Q: How long does the tour take?
A: The tour takes as long as you want. Drive at your own pace and stop where you want. There is no itinerary set as on a tour bus. GoCars offer tours you can follow to hear about the city. However, detours are designed along the route to send you back early or you can take the car all day and see the city the way you want.
Q: Can I stop along the way?
A: Yes. The car knows where you are as long as you stay on the route or return to the route. As you begin to move again the car will start talking again. Also, you can park in motorcycle parking areas.
Q: Do I have to stay on the tour?
A: No. If there is a San Diego site you want to see that is not on the tour simply use the map we provide. Then make your way back to the tour route to hear about the sites on the tour.
Q: Can I cross the Coronado Bridge?
A: No, state law does not allow a GoCar on the freeway.
Q: What is GoCar’s reservation policy?
A: Call the toll free number 800 91-GoCar (800-914-6227, 800-914-6227) to reserve a date and time. Please make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance.
Q: How fast does the GoCar go?
A: The GoCars top speed is 30mph. few streets along the tour route have traffic exceeding this speed.
Q: How old do I have to be to rent a GoCar?
A: You must be 21 or older to rent a GoCar. We will use our discretion, and we reserve the right to refuse services to anyone not deemed capable of driving the car safely.
Q: Is vehicle insurance available, and how much does it cost?
A: We offer renters an optional collision damage waiver (CDW) similar to car rental agencies at $9/day
