The Maritime Museum of San Diego comes of age.

By the location, the quality, the Iconic recognition

History looks to a bright future.

Personality, possibility and pizzazz are just a few of the words used to describe what is known as San Diego’s most unique event venue: The San Diego Maritime Museum. Centrally located on the downtown waterfront bay between the Convention Center, San Diego Airport’s Lindberg Field, posh hotels, shopping and a dizzying array of world-renowned restaurants, the Maritime Museum is hailed as one of the most sought-after event venues in all of San Diego, if not southern California. Over the years, the Maritime Museum has hosted countless corporate and social functions for companies participating in conventions, commerce or furthering their marketing efforts. Private indoor and outdoor events are available aboard any of our five historic ships for spectacular events, receptions, awards dinners, meetings and guided tours. Each ship boasts its own ambiance and incredible view of San Diego sunsets, adding novelty to the different variety of vessels. The museum provides award winning cuisine and service, fantastic beverages and topnotch entertainment for any type of event.

The Maritime Museum allows you to hand select the mood and medium of your event by choosing from any one of our five vessels. The 1863 “Star of India” is the oldest operational sailing ship in the world; it made 21 trips around the world in the late 19th Century. This ship accommodates up to 600 guests. The “Berkeley”, crowned with glistening antique opalescent glass boasts being the best-preserved 19th century ferryboat in existence. It now serves as our floating museum and holds up 1000 guests. The “HMS Surprise,” a magnificent replica of an 18th century Royal Navy frigate, was used in the movie “Master and Commander,” starring Russell Crowe. This ship accommodates 175 guests. Additionally, the “Californian,” a replica of the 1847 Revenue Cutter C. W. Lawrence, accommodates up to 52 guests and the “Steamboat Media,” built in 1904, holds up to 30 guests. Both visitors and San Diego natives treasure these historic vessels as part of the city’s uniqueness.

With over 40 years of professional experience, the professional staff is eager to assist in all aspects of planning your event. They too, can arrange transportation to and from the museum (by land or sea), a variety of custom catering options, full bar service, and offer a wide selection of entertainment and décor from which to choose. The Maritime Museum of San is happy to assist with your entire spectrum of event planning needs; however, they’ll leave the choosing of your ships up to you!
