Hotel and Casino Renovations

New Pantai Inn across from La Jolla Cove opened Phase 1 in November 2011

New Pantai Inn across from La Jolla Cove opened Phase 1 in November 2011

In September 2011, Sycuan Casino in San Diego’s East County completed a nine-month, $27 million property renovation that affected every area of the casino interior. Renovations included new design in the casino gaming areas, an all-new non-smoking buffet, a new sports bar and grill restaurant, and the installation of a one-of-a-kind specialty lighting fixture in the main lobby. Other visual upgrades were included in the poker room, off track betting area, bingo pavilion, gift shop and restrooms.

Located in the heart of downtown San Diego, The Westgate Hotel announced that a 37,000-sq. ft. PureFitness Sports Club will open on its property by early 2012. The fitness center will offer hotel guests and club members an upscale health and wellness experience. The state-of-the-art facility will include a cardio deck with more than 200 pieces of equipment, circuit training and three separate group exercise rooms offering classes in spinning, yoga and boot camp. The 15,000-sq. ft. roof deck will feature an Olympic-sized lap pool, a lounge area with a fire pit and Jacuzzi, and outdoor fitness and training stations. Additional amenities will include 5,000 sq. ft. of locker space, a steam room, sauna, laundry and dry cleaning services.

In October 2011, El Cordova Hotel, a historic boutique property in Coronado, finished a complete remodel of its Casa Grande Suite. The 1,800-sq.-ft. hacienda-style suite features a main living space with new furniture and decor, including a Spanish-style study desk, solid wood plank-style table, two custom-made sofas, scrolled metal chandeliers and a leather-wrapped freestanding bar. The entrance to the suite is also flanked by handcrafted hacienda estate doors made of solid wood. The hotel’s new management team upgraded this historic property with modern luxuries and necessities, such as iPod docking stations, flat-screen TVs, key-card entry for added guest security, an AutoClerk reservation system for online bookings and a Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy amenity set in all the rooms.

The 40-room Pantai Inn (formerly the Shell Beach Apartments), located across from picturesque La Jolla Cove in La Jolla, opened the first of a three-phase restoration in November 2011. “Pantai” means “beach” in Malay, and each suite features hand-carved mahogany and custom designed Balinese décor along with beautiful Pacific Ocean views. The bathrooms are in keeping with the Balinese theme, using granite, quartz, carved tile and pebble stone, and hand-pounded copper sinks. Kitchens have quartz counters and hand-pounded copper sinks and come fully equipped with a full-sized refrigerator, stove, microwave and coffeemaker. Additional amenities include touch-controlled bamboo window blinds and living rooms with romantic fireplaces and 55-inch flat screen TVs.
