Go Faster
Six simple ways to add speed to your machine.
By Bicycling.com
MAINTAIN THE BASICS: "Make sure your drivetrain is clean and well lubed, the brakes aren't dragging and your hubs are adjusted right-that's the cheapest way."
RETREAD: "If you've still got the tires that came with your bike, get some new ones."
GO CLIPLESS: "Put on clipless pedals and buy some cycling shoes. Being able to pull as well as push on the pedals makes you more efficient and faster."
GET LATEX TUBES: "They aren't made for durability, but they're lighter and have lower inertia. You can see a big difference, especially when you're taking off or sprinting."
USE HIGHER PRESSURE TIRES: "On a road bike, you can go to a higher pressure tire, which reduces rolling resistance, and it'll give you a little more speed."
SHAVE YOUR LEGS: "It won't really make your bike faster, but it'll make you feel faster."
