San Diego East - Indian Reservations/Casinos
San Diego County has the largest concentration (18) of Native American Indian tribes of any county in the United States. Four of those Native American Indian tribes - the Barona Band of Mission Indians, the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, and the Viejas and Campo Bands of Kumeyaay Indians - own reservation land in San Diego’s East County and center their activities around bustling casinos, which have helped to bring them prosperity and independence.
Barona Valley Ranch Resort and Casino
Nestled on the Barona Reservation on 5,500 acres, the Barona Valley Ranch Resort and Casino is one of California's largest Indian gaming casinos. Barona's 310,000-square-foot alcohol-free casino features 2,000 Las Vegas slot machines, 80 table games and several dining options. The resort also features an entertainment facility and 400-room hotel. Deluxe guest rooms and luxury suites provide an escape from the casino, pool and fitness center. Guests can also relax at The AmBience Day Spa while receiving complete spa services. The Barona Reservation is also home to a premier, championship 18-hole golf course, featuring nearly 100 bunkers and a series of lakes and ponds fed by natural streams.
Golden Acorn Casino Travel Center
One of San Diego’s newest casinos, located in Campo, is the Golden Acorn Casino Travel Center, which opened in August 2001. The casino features include 750 Las Vegas slot machines, including the popular Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right, over 20 table games, 46 video poker machines, the Smokey's Golden BBQ restaurant, Del Oro Deli, and a 24-hour travel store.
Sycuan Resort & Casino
Sycuan Resort & Casino, located in El Cajon, offers 305,000 square-feet of gaming action in a Mediterranean theme, featuring a large pond, waterfalls and palm trees. Resort features include five restaurants; a state-of-the-art theater for stage, concert or film events; a 1,200-seat bingo hall, and 2,000 Las Vegas slot machines, some of which are in a smoke-free wing. Located adjacent to the casino is the resort golf course offering three championship golf courses and the Sycuan Golf Academy. Each of the resort’s 103 rooms feature golf course, putting green or poolside views. In addition, there are two swimming pools, cocktail lounge, dining room, meeting rooms, and 11 lighted tennis courts.
Viejas Casino
The Viejas Casino is set on the 1,600-acre Viejas Reservation, located near the town of Alpine. Casino features include 2,200 Las Vegas slot machines, including Wheel of Fortune and Megabucks, over 95 table games, off-track wagering, and a 1,200-seat bingo hall. For those who want to take a break from the casino action, Viejas offers the 57-store Viejas Outlet Center, six diverse restaurants, DreamCatcher showroom, and an outdoor concert venue featuring nationally known concert performances and local entertainers.
