San Diego East - Golf Courses
Perfecting the Golf Swing
East County offers several outstanding golf courses in scenic settings that roll through country foothills and valleys or wind through scenic wetlands.
Barona Creek Golf Club
The Barona Valley Ranch Resort and Casino is home to the Barona Creek Golf Club. Native grasses, mature oak trees, streambeds, and colossal rock formations set the tone for this 18-hole, 7,200-yard championship course, designed by internationally acclaimed golf course architect Gary Roger Baird. The course includes over 100 bunkers, strategically placed natural obstacles and five tee choices, making it a rewarding course for players of all skill level. Barona was rated “3rd Best Resort Golf Course” in California by Golfweek Magazine in 2011 and one of the "Top 5 Casino Courses in the Country" by Golf Digest.
Sycuan Resort and Casino
Spread over approximately 435 acres, the golf course at Sycuan Resort and Casino in El Cajon provides a challenge for golfers of all skill level, with a choice of three 18-hole courses: two championship courses and one executive course. The natural terrain of the courses includes small ponds; Sycamore, Oak and Cottonwood-lined fairways; rock formations and the Sweetwater River, which provide hazards on all three courses.
Carlton Oaks Country Club
Carlton Oaks Country Club, located in Santee, features a challenging 7,225-yard Pete Dye-designed course with meandering creeks, mature trees, strategic undulation, and peninsula tie greens. Five sets of tees allow golfers of all skill level to take advantage of San Diego’s only Dye-designed course of long fairways and deep pot bunkers.
Steele Canyon Golf Club
Steele Canyon Golf Club in Jamul features three distinct 9-hole Gary Player-designed courses, each offering an environment and type of play for every skill level. Boasting the county’s highest golf star rating, the courses provide the most breathtaking views and extreme course elevation changes in Southern California. The rugged Canyon Nine provides breathtaking elevations, the Ranch Nine winds through fields surrounding a working ranch, and the Meadow Nine stretches along a pastoral valley floor with beautiful woodlands, streams and native wildlife.
Mt. Woodson Golf Club
Golf Digest named Mt. Woodson Golf Club as one of the “most beautiful and unique courses in California,” citing its hilly terrain, superb conditions and panoramic views. The steep changes in elevation throughout the course help define the special character of Mt. Woodson, where the challenges and fun of each hole have been captured with names such as “Drop Off,” “The Chute,” “Tree Tops,” and “The Plunge.”
Warner Springs Ranch
Located at 3,200 ft., Warner Springs Ranch, nestled against the base of Hot Springs Mountain, offers the highest golf course in San Diego County. Warner Springs boasts picturesque mountain vistas and open grazing land, giving this 18-hole championship course an Old West ranch feel.
