Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

Here's a chance to get to know San Diego by foot! Join 20,000 runners and
more than 40 bands for the fifth largest marathon in the country. The beginner-friendly
course covers 26.2 scenic miles and while you're running or walking you'll hear
everything from hip hop to country to good old fashioned rock 'n' roll. Two thousand
high-energy, local high school cheerleaders will also be positioned along the route
to entertain and invigorate participants and spectators alike.

Start line: Laurel & 6th Ave. on the west end of Balboa Park
Finish Line: Marine Corps Recruit Depot, adjacent to the San Diego International Airport
Race route: The 26.2 mile improved course starts in Balboa Park, runs through Hillcrest, skirts the San Diego Zoo, heads downtown into the historic Gaslamp Quarter, travels up Highway 163, races by SeaWorld and the San Diego beach and bay communities and ends at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Point Loma.
Fee: $85 until 4/22; $95 (4/23-5/27); $120 at the Expo. Fee includes free concert admission, t-shirt, goodie bag, and finisher's medal and certificate. Minimum age is 18 years to enter.

The Festival opens at 7:30am at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot and provides entertainment, refreshments and souvenirs for both participants and spectators. The entertainment stage features live music from 9am-3pm. The majority of runners are expected to finish the race from 10:45am-12:30pm.
The headliner for this live concert on June 5 at Coors Amphitheater will be announced in late March. Past performers include Chris Isaak, Smash Mouth, Chicago and Hootie & the Blowfish. Participants and volunteers receive free admittance. The public is welcome and additional tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster at 619-220-TIXS (8497) for $25.
