"Must See" San Diego - Retratos: 2000 Years of Latin American Portraiture

Retratos: 2000 Years of Latin American Portraiture Thru June 12
Now on display at the San Diego Museum of Art, Retratos is the most comprehensive exhibit of Latin American portraiture ever to tour the U.S. Comprised of approximately 100 works in different media, the exhibition explores the meaning of this art form for the many societies represented. The objects, which include paintings, sculpture, photography, and work in mixed media, reveal the richness of Latin America's portrait tradition, from pre-Columbian times to the present day.

"Must See" San Diego - 4th Annual Gator by the Bay Zydeco and Blues Festival

Gator by the Bay Zydeco and Blues Festival May 7 & 8
Experience steamin' Blues, hot Zydeco and sweet Cajun music live and outdoors on beautiful San Diego Bay. This fun-filled family event features six Zydeco dance bands, eight Blues dance bands, a free dance workshop, a "Taste of Louisiana" food court, cooking demos, an activity center for kids, and a Mardi Gras Parade.

"Must See" San Diego - Art Alive

Art Alive May 13-15
Experience a visual feast at the San Diego Museum of Art where over 100 floral designers will display their fresh floral interpretations of works in the Museum's renowned collections displayed throughout the galleries. A special treat of Art Alive will be the featured work of the world-renowned floral designer, René van Rems, who, with the help of his team, will decorate the Museum's rotunda. Kim Morrill, AIFD, whose articles and design work have been featured in Elle Décor and Metropolitan Home magazines will give a floral demonstration on May 13 at 11am.

Hours: 5/13, 10am-9pm; 5/14, 10am-6pm; 5/15,10am-6pm
Admission: adult, $12; senior, young adult, military and student, $10; youth, $5, children under 5 free. Art Alive admission allows you to view all museum exhibits.

"Must See" San Diego - 2nd Annual Space Day

2nd Annual Space Day May 21
Get ready for an "out-of-this-world" experience when you visit the San Diego Aerospace Museum on Space Day. This free, family-oriented event will feature demonstrations, lectures and hands-on activities with local and national industry experts from NASA, Mars Society, ISS, EarthKam Project (UCSD), Lockheed Martin, and Kaiser Electro Optics. Kids will love learning how to build an Aqua Rocket using a soda bottle, bicycle pump and water. Don't miss the Apollo 9 Command Module on loan from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

Hours: open daily from 10am - 4pm. Summer hours: 10am-5pm (Memorial Day to Labor Day)
Admission: Space Day celebration is free. Admission to all other exhibits is required. Adults, $9; children, $4 (6-17ys.); 5 and under, free.
