Celebrate the landing of Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo into San Diego Bay in 1542
with festivities from September 30 - October 2. One of the highlights of the weekend
will be the Cabrillo Festival Open House which will feature colorful displays of dancing, storytelling, music and food from Mexico, Native America, Portugal and Spain. This free
event also features Kumeyaay basket making, flint knapping and acorn grinding demonstrations, a living history encampment where 16th-century Spanish soldiers demonstrate the arms, armor, implements and daily life, and children's activities. Not to be missed is the re-enactment of Cabrillo's historic landing at Ballast Point.

This exhibit, which will be shared by the San Diego Museum of Art and the Museum of Photographic Arts from October 1 to December 31, will explore how photography has shaped our understanding and perception of race. Divided into five distinct sections,
each analyzing how photographs fuel myths and create false stereotypes, the exhibit highlights the diversity of American culture through portraits, social documentary, science, and landscape photography from the 19th century to the present.

Experience life in San Diego in the 1800s by heading on down to the historic Gaslamp Quarter October 30 for real gold pannin', authentic Wild West shootouts, western bands and fun interactive activities. This annual children's historic street faire will feature ice cream eating, pig calling, spaghetti eating and a costume contest. Kids will also love the pony rides, wagon rides and a chance to visit the William Heath Davis House for a tour of the "House of a Thousand Spiders."
