10/09/11

In its 17th year, the Little Italy neighborhood continues to celebrate its heritage by bringing the passion, vibrancy and flavors of Italy to southern California with its yearly treasured event, the Little Italy FESTA! More than 150 vendors, three stages of entertainment, Gesso Italiano (Italian Chalk), an Italian motorsport show, a Stickball exhibition game, and a children’s area will encompass more than 16 blocks of event activities at this family-friendly event.

All local restaurants will be open to serve the taste buds with their best Italian cuisine - with everything from hand-made pastas and pizzas, to fresh-filled cannolis and gelato. Infusion Culinary and the Little Italy Mercato will be having cooking demonstrations at “The Italian Table” stage on Beech and India Streets. For those 21 and up, the event’s beer and wine garden sponsored by Karl Strauss is a go-to spot to visit with friends and make new ones in a fun and safe environment.

For families, FESTA! event planners recommend visiting the Stickball exhibition game, on Columbia Street, to view fierce competition among the finest teams on the West Coast who will be battling it out to be crowned the FESTA! Stickball Champions! Other fun includes the 2nd Annual Cannoli Eating Contest, where the winner will be dubbed as the Big Cannoli; presented by Caffe Italia.
