The San Diego County Fair is the sixth largest fair in the nation and is the largest annual event in San Diego County. This year the Fairgrounds will transform into "Music Mania", San Diego's biggest music festival, with 22 days and 8 stages. Besides an impressive line-up of performers, the fair is filled with delighful attractions, unique vendors, home, garden, antique and art exhibitions, silly contests, and everyone's favorite - fried fair food. The fair begins June 12 and runs through July 5 (closed Monday June 15 and 22) at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Special Events

• Opening Day, Friday, June 12, featuring Breakfast in the Gardens, our sneak preview of the renowned Paul Ecke Jr. Flower & Garden Show.
• San Diego International Beer Festival, Friday & Saturday, June 26 & 27
• Enviro Fair, Saturday, June 20, with many "green" activities and vendors, so you can learn more about how to reduce, reuse and recycle! HGTV host Eric Stromer will be our guest speaker.
• Pro Wrestling, Sunday, July 5
• Motorcycle Ride to the Fair, Saturday, June 20
• 5th Annual Gospel Festival, Saturday, June 27, featuring a nationally known gospel entertainer on the Grandstand Stage and day-long, toe-tapping praise music on three other stages.
  

Special Days

• Two Dollar Tuesday, Tuesday, June 16. Fair admission is just $2.00, with special tickets available only at Albertsons.
• Kids' Day, every Tuesday (June 16, 23 and 30). Special activities for the younger set, and all kids 12 and younger get free admission!
• Seniors' Day, every Thursday (June 18, 25 and July 2) featuring fun activities and entertainment.
• Día de la Familia, every Sunday (June 14, 21, 28 and July 5) with fabulous, lively, Latin-themed entertainment and activities.
• Tuesday Taste of the Fair, June 16, 23 and 30, featuring $2.00 "tastes" of all the great Fair food.
• Pay-One-Price Ride Days, every Wednesday and Thursday (June 17, 18, 24, 25, and July 1, 2). Buy a wristband, enjoy the rides all afternoon into the evening.
• PennySaver Value Days, every Friday (June 12, 19, 26 and July 3), featuring discount-coupon booklets packed with savings at Fair food and product booths. One per Fairgoer, at the admission gates.

Quirky Contests

The San Diego County Fair not only has fun rides, exhibits and attractions, but features some of the most unusual and unique contests for all types of people, no matter your interests. The following are a few examples of the most quirky contests we've ever heard of.

• Best Animal Noise Contest
  Contest: Saturday, June 13; Tuesday, June 16; Wednesday, June 17; and Monday, June 29, 2:00PM, Infield Stage
  Registration Deadline: No pre-registration. Enter at the Fair just before the contest.
• Ugliest Rock, Painted Rock
  Contest date: Saturday, June 20
  Registration deadline: No pre-registration. Bring contest form and entry to Fair.
• SPAM™ Kid Chef of the Year: Create an amazing appetizer with any variety of SPAM, and have the chance to become the national winner.
  Contest date: Sunday, June 21
  Registration deadline: No pre-registration. Open to kids aged 7-17. Bring contest form and entry to Fair.
• 2009 Zucchini Race Contest: Attach wheels to a zucchini, decorate it, and race it!
  Contest date: Saturday, June 27
  Registration deadline: Wednesday, May 20. Processing fee is $3.00. Contest is for ages 5-12.
