The five talented young musicians who make up Hot Buttered Rum exhibit a free-wheeling, genre-bending improvisational ethos disciplined by their extensive technical training. You might say that their sound came from the mountains but moved to the city, without forgetting its high altitude home. Call it Avant-Grass, High Altitude Bluegrass, or Mountain Americana with a funky, folky, and playful edge—it all seems natural, considering that the players honed their chops on the mountaintops and city streets of their Northern California home before hitting the road.
The band’s easy-going chemistry and friendly charisma draws an enthusiastic fan base that is growing—quickly. Playing 180 gigs in 2006 alone, the band’s dynamic live performances have created a stir all across the country.
