Lace up those running shoes and get ready to run the fifth largest marathon in the country. Forty bands will perform live on 26 entertainment stages that will line the 26.2 scenic mile course. Mile by mile, 20,000 runners and walkers will be inspired by the beat of reggae, jazz, country, funk, and good old fashioned rock 'n' roll music. Two thousand high-energy, local high school cheerleaders will also be positioned along the route to entertain and invigorate participants and spectators alike.
 
The Facts
Start line
: Palm & 6th Ave. on the west end of Balboa Park
Finish Line: Marine Corps Recruit Depot, adjacent to the San Diego International Airport
Race route: The 26.2 mile course starts in Balboa Park, runs through Hillcrest and skirts the San Diego Zoo. Runners take an expanded tour of downtown featuring PETCO Park, the historic Gaslamp Quarter and the San Diego Harbor. The course then travels up Highway 163, races by SeaWorld and the San Diego beach and bay communities and ends at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Point Loma.

Finish Line Festival

The Festival opens at 7:30am at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot and provides entertainment, refreshments and souvenirs for both participants and spectators. The entertainment stage features live music. The majority of runners are expected to finish the race from 10:30am-12:30pm. 
 
Post-Race Concert

The headliner for this live concert on June 4 at Coors Amphitheater will be announced in late March. Past performers include Chris Isaak, Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Chicago and Hootie & the Blowfish. Participants and volunteers receive free admittance. The public is welcome and additional tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster at 619-220-TIXS (8497) for $25. Gates open 5:30pm; headliner at 8pm. 2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista.
 
Rock 'n' Roll Health & Fitness Expo & Registration Headquarters
Be sure to make a dash to this expo to see more than 100 exhibits featuring interactive displays, the latest in sports apparel and running shoes, and health and nutritional products. June 2, 11am-7pm; June 3, 9am-5pm. San Diego Convention Center, Halls D & E, 111 West Harbor Dr. Free admission; open to the public.
