Guaranteed to be wild, and probably a little bit crazy, the San Diego Zoo’s Nighttime Zoo festivities begin June 25. The extended hours of Nighttime Zoo – from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm – give guests more time to visit the more than 4,500 rare and endangered animals at the Zoo. Taking full advantage of the long summer days in San Diego, Nighttime Zoo is celebrated through September 5, 2011.
Shows
"Doc" the Veterinarian
Location: Front Street Plaza
Times: 4:00 – 8:30 pm
Inspired by our real-life hospital keepers and vets, Doc will again be holding court around his medicine chest, describing his many duties and displaying equipment and props that make life here at the Zoo better for our animal residents.
Camp Critters
Location: Wegeforth Bowl
Showtimes: 11:30 am and 3:30 pm
Experience Wegeforth Bowl's brand-new show, Camp Critters—a summer camp where the animals are in charge! Join Harry the sea lion and his costars—canine, avian, human, and otherwise—and join in the fun to see if you can get your camp counselor badge.
Dr. Zoolittle Explores Asia
Location: Children's Zoo's Clark Theater
Showtimes: 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, and 7:00 pm Nightly
Dr. Zoolittle brings his own special take on science when he "transports" audiences to Asia to study the giant panda. Come get the scoop on these black-and-white wonders, such as the fact that pandas poop an average of 48 times a day!
Surfin' Safari Bush Band
Location: Front Street Plaza
Showtimes: 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 pm Nightly
Many regular guests have come to know and enjoy this zany, interactive minstrel-style band. Their antics will be inspired as they bring limbo sticks, hula hoops, and fun interactives to get kids and adults alike involved in the organized mayhem.
Dancin' through the Decades

After the hula hoop contest, stick around to watch our “audience volunteers” in this hilarious, athletic, and creative look at music and dance through the decades. Not only will you recognize the over 30 melodies that rapidly change from moment to moment, but you will be amazed at the abilities of our dancers as they try desperately to keep up!
Steam Powered Giraffe - Robot Band

Be prepared for a self-oscillating live audio projection of Colonel P.A. Walters Steam Powered Robots. Their convincing hydraulic movements, robotic harmonies, and fantastical artificial intelligence entertain children and adults alike. Their popularity has surged throughout the decades, but their music has remained a cornucopia of richness, throwing audiences back to a simpler time when television hadn’t even been invented. You'll be amazed by these musical robots!
Monkey King Stilt Walkers
Location: Asian Passage

Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is a monkey born from a stone who acquires supernatural powers through Taoist practices. Although he possesses an immense amount of strength, is superbly fast, and can transform into 72 various animals and objects, he is still mortal and is relentlessly pursued by foes, as each of his hairs has magical properties. He also has many loyal followers, and you will meet such a trio as you wander through Asian Passage. Keep your eyes open for the Monkey King Stiltwalkers.
Tales of the Mandarin Forest—Golden Lion Chinese Acrobats

The Golden Lion Chines Acrobats provide world-class entertainment featuring the most talented acrobats, dancers, martial artists, and musicians from China. Renowned worldwide for its timeless tradition of producing the world’s finest acrobats, this troupe hails from Hebei Province, the cornerstone of great performance art. With a tradition of over 5,000 years and a timeless appeal that crosses all ages, be amazed by the spectacular variety of breathtaking acrobatics, amazing native costumes, and various jaw-dropping performances.
Power and Air—Strength and Aerial Acrobats
Location: Skyfari East on Front St.

Five times a day, this dedicated team of professionals will be displaying amazing athletic prowess as precision balancing is matched with the beauty and skill of the aerial lyre. These cool cats will be on display in front of the Skyfari East Pool.
Jasmine and Jade Jumpers
Location: Sydney's Grill in Urban Jungle

Remember the old story of the princess and the frog? Well, this will be our decidedly Asian take on this fairy tale. Watch as colorful frogs bounce for our princess’ attention, in front of her castle and lake. These frogs are really quite crazy, as you will definitely see as you watch their antics. Which one will win the princess’ heart?
Professor Fred Featherstone
Location: Asian Passage
Times: 4:30 to 8:00 pm
This area of the Zoo is a bit tough to navigate, so we have to send our most experienced adventurer, the honorable Professor Fred Featherstone, to the rescue of our wonderful guests. Armed with some of Dr. Zoolittle's famous surprises and tricks, his trusty information platform, and his wit, our official greeter in the canyon will make sure each trip is fantastical.
Front St. Finale

How about an extravaganza to end your evening at the Zoo? Every acrobat, stiltwalker, musician, trampoliner, and greeter will gather on our beautiful new Front Street for a three-ring finale. Grab your favorite spot as Doc emerges with his top hat and tails and introduces our carnivale procession led by Professor Featherstone. Carrying festive flags, each group will be led by the professor to their personal “spotlight” where they will entertain, carry-on, toss beads, and just create a festive flair. It should be quite a show!
