11/11/10 – 11/14/10
Get ready for MALASHOCK/RAW, a gritty, provocative, cutting-edge evening of dance that will shock, astonish and amaze. Choreographers John Malashock, Michael Mizerany and Bradley Michaud will present new work that is both fearless and dynamic, exhibiting a brazen athleticism and stark sensuality seldom seen on the San Diego dance stage. Boundaries will be pushed and lines will be crossed in this exciting, not to be missed evening of dance. You have never seen Malashock Dance like this!
Man Up! will be John Malashock’s way of digging around in his feminine side to explore how women perceive the state of manhood and the male psyche. This gender bending choreography about perceptions and misperceptions will be created specifically for five dynamic dancing women and promises to be personally illuminating and highly entertaining.
Utilizing a hypnotic and energetic score by KODO, Michael Mizerany’s newest dance piece, BAD COMPANY, is a high energy work that is unabashedly bold and undeniably risky. BAD COMPANY delves into the nuances, complexities and the more than bizarre nature of the human condition – exposing raw vulnerability, physical daring and carnal need. “…inspired, athletic and beautiful.” (Jeff Britton, SD Uptown News), “…dazzling moves, jaw-dropping physicality…” (Pat Launer, SDNN).
Multiple Horton Award Winner Bradley Michaud, Artistic Director of METHOD CONTEMPORARY DANCE in Los Angeles, will reset THIS IS NOT AN EXIT, a bold, unpredictable and high velocity dance work exploring the themes of relationships, breakups, attempted suicide, and the road to recovery after a monumental loss. “… movement spectacle … bold physicality … perfect control and mastery of a virtuoso style..."(Lewis Segal, LA Times).
