The San Diego International Film Festival is the regions premier film event and one of the leading stops on the independent festival circuit. SDiFF offers a totally unique experience to catch first time and veteran filmmakers as they debut their latest work to command the attention of new audiences and industry luminaries. Be among the first to see major studio premieres on the road to the Hollywood awards. This five-day event features 100+ independent films, studio premieres, panels with celebrities and industry insiders, red carpet events, parties, all-star tributes and filmmaker awards.
In 2016, the San Diego Int'l Film Festival received more than 2000 submissions from 65 countries and every continent except Antarctica. Over 100 films will be curated for screening at this year's Festival. The film schedule will be announced August 22.
At the Festival, film lovers have the opportunity to select films from many different genres, including documentaries, shorts, foreign, social justice, military, LGTB, animation, horror, and studio premiers. The Q&A sessions always inspire, entertain, educate and stimulate further discussions among Festival attendees.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Festival are the Panel discussions where you can interact with filmmakers, actors, directors and deal makers. Learn the backstory on why a film was produced, hear the actor's stories, and get a peek behind the scene on the hurdles of production deals.
Every night of the Festival is filled with special events and parties - kicking off with the Opening Night Film and Party in downtown San Diego at the historic Balboa Theatre and Westgate Hotel. Join the glitz and glam when Hollywood goes big at the Thursday Night of The Stars Tribute at the Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla. For our Indie Lovers, the House of Blues is hosting a Festival Indie Party Thursday Night! Friday Nights Party with a Purpose at the Horton Plaza Festival Hub is filled with fireworks, music, live acts and more! The Saturday Filmmaker Awards and Sunday's Culinary Cinema are just two more places to Be Part of the Scene at the San Diego Int'l Film Festival.
