The U.S. Men's National Team will face CONCACAF rival Guatemala on July 5 in San Diego in the team's only tune-up before the start of the 2013 Gold Cup. Kickoff at Qualcomm Stadium is set for 8:00 PM PT, and the match will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network and UniMas.
The U.S. will be seeking to capture its fifth Gold Cup title. The winner of this tournament will qualify for a playoff against the 2015 winner for the right to compete in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
"This is a very important opportunity for us to get in a good game before the start of the Gold Cup," said U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. "It is our goal to win the tournament, and the chance to play Guatemala will be good preparation for our group. We are thrilled to get back to San Diego which has such an outstanding soccer tradition."
The United States holds a 13-4-6 advantage in the series against Guatemala dating back to 1977. The U.S. has never lost to the Chapines on home soil, collecting an 11-0-1 record.
San Diego will host the MNT for the first time since 2006, and the team will be in search of its first ever victory in the city having posted an 0-5-2 record. This is the fourth appearance at Qualcomm Stadium, where the U.S. is 0-2-1 in matches from 1997-99.
