Diane Powers' Bazaar del Mundo Shops have been a beloved destination in Old Town, San Diego for over 30 years. Loyal customers from throughout the world return often for the shops’ one-of-a-kind creations.
The Shops capture all the color and flavor of Old Mexico in an intimate setting where visitors find a vast selection of treasures and specialty items from Latin America and around the world including folk art, crafts, gifts, women's fashion, jewelry and home decor all carefully selected in vibrant colors and design.
Each year the Bazaar del Mundo hosts a number of festive celebrations, ranging from traditional Mexican fiestas, such as Cinco de Mayo and Dias de los Muertos (day of the Dead), to cultural exhibitions of art, (Santa Fe Market, Art in Fashion Marketplace, Latin American Festival and Mata Ortiz Pottery Market).
In addition, restaurants Casa Guadalajara (right next door) and Casa de Pico in La Mesa are owned and operated by Powers. The award-winning restaurants present traditional Mexican fare in a quaint and colorful atmosphere complete with roving mariachi bands and bountiful margaritas.
The Bazaar del Mundo has been recognized by the California Department of Tourism, the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau, the San Diego Restaurant Association, the American Institute of Architects and others for outstanding contributions to culture and tourism.
