Lyric Opera San Diego has been San Diego’s accessible, affordable opera and musical theatre company since 1979. The company proudly performs operas and musicals from the European and American tradition, in English, presenting the finest young musical talent available with full orchestra and chorus accompaniment. Performances are at the newly restored, award-winning historic Birch North Park Theatre at University Avenue and 29th Street in North Park.

Lyric Opera is locally recognized as the top company for developing professional artists. Our mission is to provide the opportunity for young professionals to hone their craft by working alongside established artists. Many alumni have gone on to perform major roles with such prestigious companies as New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Opera Pacific, Opera Company of Philadelphia, and Seattle Opera. They also are appearing on Broadway and on national and European tours. Lyric Opera’s productions are regularly reviewed locally, nationally, and internationally.
