Art of Elan: A Ghost Opera

Tan Dun's haunting work Ghost Opera, draws upon Dun's childhood memories of shamanistic "ghost operas" in Chinese peasant Culture. In this 4,000 year old tradition humans and spirits of the future, the past, and nature communicate with one another. A Ghost Opera takes inspiration from memories, incorporating works by J.S. Bach's work Prelude and Fugue No. 4 in C# minor as well as Bright Sheng's solo violin work entitled The Steam Flows.

In Your Dreams, the 6th Season of Art of Élan, explores the unpredictable, terrifying, sensuous, and whimsical world of the subconscious. Four one-hour concerts examine diverse topics and range in musical style from the traditional and contemporary sounds of India to Tan Dun's haunting Ghost Opera and David Bruce's spirited work Steampunk.
