Recently crowned 'Female Artist of the Year' for the second time at the Classic BRITs, Alison Balsom has cemented an international reputation as one of classical music's great ambassadors and is ranked among the most distinctive and ground-breaking musicians on the international circuit today. She studied trumpet at the Guildhall School of Music, the Paris Conservatoire, and with Håkan Hardenberger and was a concerto finalist in the BBC Young Musician competition in 1998. Ms. Balsom performs a wide range of recital and concerto repertoire, from Albinoni to Zimmermann and performs on both modern and baroque trumpets.
Versatile, enterprising and ambitious, the Scottish Ensemble is a tight-knit group of outstanding string players from Scotland and across Europe who perform regularly together under Artistic Director, Jonathan Morton.
Drawing on the rich repertoire of music for strings the Ensemble enjoys an enviable reputation for innovative commissioning and programming. New works regularly contrast and complement much loved classics and the Ensemble is consistently praised for its interpretations of music from all periods.
The La Jolla Music Society program will feature works by Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, MacMillan and Tchaikovsky.
