The Living Coast Discovery Center (formerly the Chula Vista Nature Center)
The Living Coast Discovery Center offers an intimate nature experience on San Diego Bay. Visitors enjoy up-close animal encounters with endangered green sea turtles, shorebirds, hawks, owls, sharks, stingrays, jellies and more. Uniquely located on 3.3 acres of the Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge and on history-rich Gunpowder Point, the Discovery Center is home to more than 350 animal and plant species native to the San Diego Bay habitat. The Center promotes coastal resource conservation and environmental stewardship through interactive education programs, live animal exhibits and inspiring seasonal art exhibitions. Recent News: After 25 years, the Chula Vista Nature Center recently changed its name to the Living Coast Discovery Center. We will be undergoing a rebranding effort over the next couple months and are excited about this new, refreshing change! To learn more about this name change, read about us in a recent article in the UT San Diego news at http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/apr/18/coastal-connection-nature-center/.
The Center also offers year-round nature day camps for kids and teens, Overnight Adventures, scouting programs, guided kayak adventures, interactive animal encounters/keeper talks, critters and crafts programs, preschool story-time, composting workshops, nature discovery tours, walking trails through the wildlife refuge, lectures, field trips, birthday parties and teacher trainings.
