Playwrights Project Presents Plays by Young Writers

28th Season of winnign plays from the 2012 California Young Playwrights Contest

The stories spring from the imaginations of playwrights under age 19, the winners of the California Young Playwrights Contest. Scripts are evaluated in two age groups - winners age 14 and under receive readings, while writers age 15-18 work with Playwrights Project to stage full productions of their scripts. Playwrights revise their scripts, guided first by writing professionals and later by questions from the artists mounting the plays. Adult audienes are moved by the sophisticated ideas on the minds of teenage writers and students are intrigued by characters grappling with conflicts much like their own.

• Help! There's a Stranger Living Upstairs! by Gilare Zada, Age 11, San Diego
  Will the mysterious new boarder wreak even more havoc on Scarlet's crumbling life?
• The Family Table by Owen Stone, Age 15, San Diego
  After the loss of a child, a family's ritual helps them to love, survive, and move foward.
• Arc by Elana Zeltser, Age 16, Sherman Oaks
  Modern-day Kasey is visited by Joan of Arc. Will they change the course of each other's lives?

• The Trial of Wolf vs. Pig by Matthew Maceda, Age 13, San Diego
  Are the Three Little Pigs just crying wolf?
• A Day in the Life by Mimi Nicole, Age 18, San Francisco
  The emotions, intellect, and libido of a tennage boy grapple for attention in the precocious comedy.
• A Broken Promise by Kimberly Bell, Age 18, San Diego
  Can Rose balance love for her gangster boyfriend and dreams of college...now that's she's pregnant?
