Museums
San Diego's museums reflect the incredible variety and interests of the region. San Diego County is proud to showcase over 90 museums, representing a wide range of collections from fine arts to transportation, from classics to contemporary and from science to natural history. Over 25 facilities are represented by the San Diego Museum Council and 15 museums are located within Balboa Park, often referred to as "the Smithsonian of the West."

The San Diego Natural History Museum will present an enlightening new exhibition, Darwin: Evolution|Revolution, November 7, 2009 – February 28, 2010. The exhibit will explore the life and work of Charles Darwin, whose evolutionary theories on natural selection and evolution changed the face of science. Darwin’s personal manuscripts, notebooks and artworks will be on display, as well as fossils, taxidermy mounts and living specimens like Galapagos turtles, green iguanas and intricate orchids that Darwin used when developing his revolutionary theories.
