Museums
San Diego's museums reflect the incredible variety and interests of the region. San Diego County is proud to showcase over 90 museums, representing a wide range of collections from fine arts to transportation, from classics to contemporary and from science to natural history. Over 25 facilities are represented by the San Diego Museum Council and 15 museums are located within Balboa Park, often referred to as "the Smithsonian of the West."

Barona Cultural Center and Museum Price: Free Description: In the spirit of ongoing cultural preservation, our new exhibition, "More Than Words: 'Iipay Aa Tiipay Aa Uumall, The Barona Inter-Tribal Dictionary" opens Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Truly one of the most important duties of the Museum, and the first publication of the Barona Museum Press, is the monumental 696-page Barona Inter-Tribal Dictionary. The Museum presents the inspiration and background realized in the Dictionary committee's effort to document this endangered language.

San Pasqual Battlefield Reenactment Day
San Diego Archaeological Center Location: Escondido Price: Free for Members, General $2 per person, $5 per family Description: The annual reenactment of the 1846 Battle of San Pasqual takes place at the San Pasqual Battlefield, adjacent to the San Diego Archaeological Center. The Center will be open 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with activities and unique food and beverages for sale.

In August 2009, chef Giuseppe Ciuffa opened SDMA Sculpture Court Café by Giuseppe, a new European-style café, which is adjacent to the San Diego Museum of Art’s sculpture garden in Balboa Park. Tying in his Italian heritage, the menu includes everything from classic Mediterranean bites, artisan pizzas and Panini’s to artisanal cheese plates and cured salumi boards.
