From the nation's premier surf dog competition and a star-spangled Fourth of July celebration honoring the city's proud U.S. Navy heritage, to the largest tented flower show in the West and sparkling Christmas festivities, there are numerous signature events for visitors to enjoy throughout the year.

Wizard of Oz Weekend
The Coronado Cultural Arts Commission presents an island-wide celebration of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum who wrote several Oz books in Coronado.
- Complimentary advance screening of Disney's new film, Oz The Great & Powerful on March 7 at Coronado's Village Theatre.
- Book signing and wine reception with children's author Roger S. Baum, great-grandson of L. Frank Baum, on March 8 at the Coronado Public Library.
- "Wizard's Breakfast" on March 9 in the front yard of the historic house (1101 Star Park Circle) where Baum wrote Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz, The Emerald City of Oz , The Road to Oz and parts of The Marvelous Land of Oz.

6th Annual SUPERSEAL and 3rd Annual SEAL Sprint Triathlons
Designed by local Navy SEALs, the SUPERSEAL Triathlon consists of a 1,500-meter swim in the Silver Strand State Beach Bay, a 40-K bike ride and 10-K run. For a less intense course, there's the SEAL Sprint, consisting of a 500-meter swim, 20-K bike ride and 6-K run. www.superfrogtriathlon.com

Families are in for a hopping good time at this popular annual breakfast at the Coronado Community Center, featuring egg hunts and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Hotel del Coronado Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch
The landmark Hotel del Coronado celebrates Easter with fun for the whole family, including old-fashioned egg hunts on the oceanfront Windsor Lawn, a craft fun zone, photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny and an Easter champagne brunch buffet in the magnificent Ballroom and Crown Room.

88th Annual Coronado Flower Show
The largest tented flower show in the West takes place in Spreckels Park; this year's theme is "Ticket to Ride." Flower exhibits are displayed inside tents surrounding the park's central gazebo, which becomes the stage for live entertainment and trophy presentations. There is also a flower marketplace, beer garden and food pavilion. Tickets are $5 for adults; children 12 and under are free. www.coronadoflowershow.org
Three free events coincide with the Coronado Flower Show weekend:
- Art-in-the-Park, an outdoor gallery in Spreckels Park, showcases local artists on April 21.
- The Friends of the Library Book Fair takes place on April 20-21 in Spreckels Park.
- Guests can enjoy self-guided tours of award-winning "Home Front" gardens throughout Coronado. Gardens are designated with First (blue), Second (red), Third (yellow) and Honorable Mention (white) ribbons that are displayed in the home's yards or windows; a list of the winners with addresses is available at the Flower Show.
