Getting Here

San Diego by Air

  • Direct from London: Getting to San Diego is a whole lot easier thanks to British Airways' nonstop flights from London's Heathrow Airport (LHR) to San Diego International Airport (SAN). The flights operate daily in the winter months and twice daily from spring through fall.
  • Via Munich (MUC): Lufthansa flies to San Diego up to 5 times per week via its Munich hub. Connect via MUC for ease of entry into the US, as the SAN Customs process is much faster than most other US entry points.
  • Connecting Flights: As the eighth-largest city in the United States, San Diego is serviced with daily flights from all major domestic hubs, including New York, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Las Vegas, San Francisco and more.

San Diego via Ground

  • BY TRAIN

California and Points East: Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner runs between San Diego and San Luis Obispo in Central California, with stops throughout Orange and Los Angeles counties and points north. The train connects in Los Angeles to the Coast Starlight, which runs to Seattle via San Francisco, as well as to the Southwest Chief, which runs east to Chicago.
  • BY CAR

California: San Diego is the perfect place to start or end your American holiday. Los Angeles, ~190 kilometres north, is easily accessible by car, with about a two-hour drive time depending on traffic. Plan around half a day of driving to San Francisco, ~800 kilometres north.
  • Las Vegas: If you're planning on visiting the Las Vegas Strip, ~700 kilometres northeast, plan around 6 hours of travel time by car.
  • Arizona: The capital city of Phoenix is about 570 kilometres from San Diego; plan on a drive time of about 5.5 hours.
