Safe Travel Information

Below is up-to-date information on coronavirus and safety for visitors to San Diego.

Find Happy. Stay Healthy.

San Diego is ready to welcome you back. Our tourism and hospitality businesses are all following the best-in-class public health practices so you can feel confident as you enjoy all our destination has to offer. Vaccination rates in San Diego County are high, with more than 70% of residents ages 12 and up fully vaccinated. Check the San Diego County information dashboards on Wednesdays after 5:00 PM PST for weekly vaccination updates.

As of June 15, 2021, California has reopened for travel. Most businesses, such as hotels, restaurants, museums, attractions and retail shops are open without capacity restrictions or social distancing requirements. For full details, please visit the California Department of Public Health.

Due to the Delta variant, the County of San Diego is following the latest CDC guidance in recommending the universal wearing of masks by both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals in indoor public settings. Vaccinated individuals are no longer required to wear masks when in San Diego; however, individual businesses may continue to enforce mask wearing while on site. We ask that visitors abide by local business' guidelines. All individuals are still required to wear masks when using public transportation and while at the airport.

Meetings, conventions and events are permitted. For indoor events of 1,000 people or more, attendees must provide either verification that they are fully vaccinated or proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test. Attendees can no longer self-attest. The new rules go into effect Sept. 20, which will give incoming conventions and meetings time to deploy verification protocols. This public health order will stay in place until Nov. 1, 2021. For outdoor events with more than 10,000 attendees, verification of fully vaccinated status or pre-entry negative test result is strongly recommended for all attendees but self-attestation is allowed.

International travel is still restricted. Please check U.S. State Department for more information. Please note that travel across the U.S.-Mexico border is currently only allowed for trade and essential purposes.

We look forward to welcoming you back to San Diego so you can create incredible memories—safely.
