Analyst

The San Diego Tourism Authority is a private, non-profit, mutual benefit corporation composed of approximately 900 member organizations, businesses, local governments, and individuals seeking a better community through the visitor industry. San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) members include tourism-related entities in such categories as lodging, dining, arts & attractions, shopping, and transportation, among others, as well as other companies indirectly involved in the visitor industry.

As a sales and marketing organization, the main objective of SDTA is to promote and market San Diego County as a vacation destination and convention site. SDTA also represents and supports the interests of the visitor industry as a whole.

We are currently seeking an Analyst who will develop and communicate insights through analysis of visitor industry data and our program of work metrics.

Duties include:

Monitor and understand visitor industry demand drivers

  • Analyze weekly and monthly hotel performance and industry data to include STR, TravelClick, economic indicators, employment, etc. in order to brief colleagues on market performance.
  • Develop communications such as email and quarterly newsletters on the visitor industry for membership and public use.
  • Monitor new lodging supply and maintain lodging inventory database  and STR inventory alignment.
  • Track competitive market data.               
  • Support Tableau adoption and data culture throughout the organization.  Administer Tableau server for users.     
  • Meet various reporting deadlines through the collection, upload, data entry, and communication of Visitor Industry data and SDTA metrics.     
  • Execute internal primary research projects using an on-line survey tool.
  • Support and service staff with primary and secondary data and information needs, including the implementation of customer feedback processes.
  • Maintain documentation, structure and storage of the SDTA’s metrics, industry data, and related processes.

Qualifications:

Must be able to analyze, interpret, and explain data and information.

  • Be passionate about manipulating data and finding business insights.
  • Understand economics, market research principles, and basic statistics.
  • Understanding of hotel and OTA metrics is highly desirable.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills with basic knowledge of Tableau a plus.
  • Knowledge of digital analytics a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and deadline oriented.
  • 4 year degree in Hospitality, Business Administration, Finance, or Economics preferred. 
  • 5-10 years’ experience in the tourism industry and hotel revenue manager or OTA market analyst experience highly desirable.
