The San Diego Tourism Authority is a private, non-profit, mutual benefit corporation composed of approximately 900 member organizations, businesses, local governments, and individuals seeking a better community through the visitor industry. San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) members include tourism-related entities in such categories as lodging, dining, arts & attractions, shopping, and transportation, among others, as well as other companies indirectly involved in the visitor industry.

As a sales and marketing organization, the main objective of SDTA is to promote and market San Diego County as a vacation destination and meetings and convention site. SDTA also represents and supports the interests of the visitor industry as a whole.

We are looking for a Director of Event Management who will develop and execute annual strategic plan and program of work for the San Diego Tourism Authority events..

General responsibilities:

• Manage logistics of SDTA events to include, hotel meetings client events and trade shows, co-op events, member events, familiarization tours, internal meetings / training sessions, SDTA annual meeting, and others as scheduled.
• Manage budgets for all events.
• Ensure the official San Diego brand is consistently used in all client event programs (invitation, online communication, trade show booth layout, giveaways, uniforms, and other related items)
• Create all departmental forms/templates.
• Manage internal SDTA calendar of all events.
• Develop annual departmental action plan and budget.
• Manage the needs of client programs, related materials and supplies (trade show booth maintenance, promotional items, shipping, décor)
• Establish and maintain effective working relationship with SDTA’s local and regional sales offices, San Diego Convention Center Corporation, SDTA associates and members.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or 6 or more years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have a proven track record in coordinating and executing successful trade shows, meetings and customer events.
• Strong business etiquette, creativity and being extremely organized & detail oriented is essential.
• Must be a proven multi-tasker, able to work within budgets and travel as required (estimated to be no more than 20%).  
• Strong communication skills and ability to lead pre and post meetings for all events required.
• Must have demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Some sales experience and understanding of venue contracts is preferred.
