Social Media Coordinator

The San Diego Tourism Authority's (SDTA) mission is to drive visitor demand to economically benefit the San Diego region. Tourism is the second largest segment of San Diego's economy. It is vitally important to the economic health of the region. 

The San Diego Tourism Authority is a private, non-profit, corporation composed of approximately 900 member organizations, businesses, local governments, and individuals seeking a better community through the visitor industry. San Diego Tourism Authority members include tourism-related entities in such categories as lodging, dining, arts, attractions, shopping, and transportation, among others, as well as other companies indirectly involved in tourism.

As a sales and marketing organization, the main objective of the San Diego Tourism Authority is to promote and market the San Diego region as a preferred vacation and meeting destination. 

We are currently looking for a Social Media Coordinator.

General Responsibilities

The San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) Communications department manages SDTA’s consumer-facing digital channels, including websites, blogs, social media accounts and email marketing tools. The Social Media Coordinator’s role will be to execute and deliver on the consumer digital and social media strategy for the SDTA.

Specific Duties

  • Collaborate with the Digital Manager, social media agencies, internal and external stakeholders to plan, publish and report domestic and international social media content and campaigns.
  • Interact with social audiences by responding to organic and paid post comments, mentions, direct messages and customer queries in a professional and timely manner. 
  • Manage UGC content and assets, securing usage rights and ensuring proper usage and tagging.
  • Support B2C email marketing efforts through building and sending consumer email newsletters.
  • Manage SDTA’s Chatbot program including creation and optimization of conversation flows and strategize chatbot utilities to grow SDTA’s digital channels.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Manager, marketing partnerships and stakeholders in planning, execution and reporting of special event and campaign promotion deliverables through SDTA digital channels.
  • Manage SDTA’s annual master event calendar.
  • Build and foster relationships with members and industry professionals that work in social media and digital marketing in San Diego’s travel and tourism industry at events.
  • Collaborate in the production of SDTA’s quarterly social media workshops including email communications, registration, and on-site day-of event duties.
  • Support Communications team in monthly department data collection and reporting.
  • Answer SDTA main telephone on a weekly assigned day and provide phone backup as needed.

  • BA or BS required 
  • Some experience in marketing, advertising and/or social media coordination a plus. 
  • Understanding of analytics, statistics or higher-level math a plus.  
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation, cross-functional collaboration and relationship building skills are required.
  • Excellent project management skills required. 
  • Experience in tourism and/or a travel related industry a plus.
