The San Diego Tourism Authority mission is to drive visitor demand to economically benefit the San Diego region. Tourism is the third largest segment of San Diego's economy and employs approximately 189,900 people.
The San Diego Tourism Authority is a private, non-profit, mutual benefit corporation composed of approximately 900 member organizations, businesses, local governments, and individuals seeking a better community through the visitor industry. San Diego Tourism Authority members include tourism-related entities in such categories as lodging, dining, arts & attractions, shopping, and transportation, among others, as well as other companies indirectly involved in tourism.
As a sales and marketing organization, the main objective of the San Diego Tourism Authority is to promote and market the San Diego region as a preferred vacation and meeting destination. The San Diego Tourism Authority also represents and supports the interests of the visitor industry as a whole. The majority of funding received by the San Diego Tourism Authority is derived from San Diego Tourism Marketing District Assessment Funds. Lodging businesses in the District raise these funds through self-assessments for the purpose of promoting tourism in the San Diego region. The San Diego Tourism Authority also receives financial support from member dues and promotional assistance from the membership through donated in-kind services.
Establish and maintain an effective professional network through representation at regional and national trade shows and sales arenas.
Maximize destination impact by soliciting and coordinating member participation in client presentations, sales calls and appropriate follow up.
Design, develop and implement promotions that utilize the combined resources of the membership and the Tourism Authority to increase favorable destination impact on the major producers of San Diego business.
Direct the planning and execution of Sales Missions and special projects targeting key markets utilizing the participation of Tourism Authority members and partners.
Develop and maintain contacts with major travel industry leaders in San Diego, California and nationally through phone calls, correspondence and meetings, and by making personal calls in key market areas.
Generate department reports as needed for internal and external clients of the SDTA.
Maintain detailed and accurate records in the CRM for the travel trade module.
Consistent follow up with assigned travel trade accounts and tracking of services and leads/referrals for the department and partners.
