San Diego Tourism Advocacy Toolkit

from the San Diego Tourism Authority

We invite you to find out more about why travel matters to San Diego's regional economy and how you can advocate within your community.

TRAVEL MATTERS TO SAN DIEGO

The San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) is the umbrella destination marketing organization charged with driving visitor demand for the region and monitoring the health of the tourism industry. Together with 900 tourism-related member businesses, we bring 35.8 million visitors to San Diego each year who spend an estimated $11.5 billion at thousands of area businesses. As San Diego's second largest traded economy, the tourism industry employs over 194,000 San Diegans and contributes $19 billion in annual economic impact to the region.

During fiscal year 2018 (July 2017 - June 2018), nearly $306 million was collected in Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) revenue from guests who stayed in hotels or other short-term rentals throughout the county. This revenue flows directly to local governments to pay for road improvement, police, fire safety, lifeguards, parks, and other essential services. In essence, tourism not only drives the local economy, but supports the community’s way of life and makes San Diego a better place to live, work, and play.

National Travel & Tourism Week 2019

NATIONAL TRAVEL & TOURISM WEEK

Each year the San Diego tourism industry joins the U.S. Travel Association in celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week as they unite professionals across the United States to celebrate the value travel holds for the economy, businesses and travel related employment in our nation. This year's event takes place May 5 through May 11 and the San Diego Tourism Authority will highlight this important initiative at our annual meeting on May 9.
