San Diego Crew Classic
Regarded as the first major regatta of the year, the San Diego Crew Classic brings together thousands of athletes from more than 100 universities, clubs and high school programs across the United...
A day at the ballpark is so much more than nine innings when you're in San Diego. With Petco Park situated in the heart of downtown, the fun starts long before the national anthem is sung and continues far past the final pitch. Make a day and a night of it and enjoy all that Downtown San Diego has to offer.
Whether you’re looking for a great spot to fuel up before the first pitch or a post-game celebration following the last out, Petco Park’s prime location means there are plenty of places just a quick walk away to hang out with fellow fans.
Kick-start the game experience with an awesome Mexican-inspired craft cocktail, then fill your belly with some of San Diego's signature cross-border cuisine.
The quintessential pregame sports bar. Right next to the stadium, Bub's is the spot to grab some chicken wings and a pitcher of local craft beer before heading to the gate.
Turn your ballgame day into a full San Diego experience. Tour the incredible brewery and taste some local brews, then walk across the parking lot to Petco Park.
A rooftop bar — something that is awesomely San Diegan — overlooking the stadium where you just watched a ballgame! Head there directly after the game to watch the grounds crew prepare the field for another game the next day.
Show off your own athletic ability after watching a few hours of baseball. It's not your dad's bowling alley, either. This top-of-the-line downtown spot has a full bar, great music and awesome eats if you didn't get your fill at the ballpark.
A big, open-air venue featuring all the games you could possibly want: ping-pong, cornhole, shuffleboard and giant (like, really big) beer pong. It's the more laid-back brother of its connected neighbor, Moonshine Flats, which is a high-energy country-themed nightclub.
> One of the West Coast's best nightlife districts is steps away from the ballpark. Join the party
The Padres' beautiful Downtown ballpark offers its own lineup of fun pre- and postgame activities. Check out these favorites:
Game-day tours of Petco are offered throughout the season (check the schedule here — a tour ticket and separate game ticket are required). Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the ballpark's workings, and then wind up your adventure by checking out batting practice from the Templeton Rye Barrel Deck.
Before many of the Padres' home games, younger fans can take a few cuts at a Wiffle ball and run the base paths of Play Ball Field, the mini-diamond that's part of Gallagher Square. The square itself — Petco's "town hall" — boasts an expansive lawn, shade trees, pathways and other places to relax and take in San Diego's baseball vibes.
Gallagher Square comes alive before every Friday home game with Party in the Park, a happy-hour series presented by Southwest Airlines. Party themes this season include BeerFest, CocktailFest, CountryFest, Fiesta in the Park presented by Verizon, and a '90s Night. Join the party from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., with $5 drink specials and live entertainment.
Besides the fireworks on the field whenever the Padres play, Petco Park also hosts several post-game pyrotechnic spectaculars each season. Take in a game and then get ready to be dazzled by the fireworks glinting off the shimmering San Diego skyline. (Click here for event schedules and much more.)
