For 2021, the 42nd Jazz Fest is virtual over Thanksgiving weekend, November 26-28.
At the heart of our organization is the exciting annual 5-day Jazz Festival held Thanksgiving weekend. The SD Jazz Fest presents a variety of traditional jazz music from ragtime to New Orleans jazz to boogie woogie to swing to gospel to dixieland. The Festival is a favorite of festival-goers from around the globe. All venues are conveniently located in the Town & Country Convention Center. With large concert rooms with double dance floors and small, intimate "listening" rooms, there is something for every taste in classic jazz.
Over 30 spectacular jazz bands and featured musicians from across the U.S. and Canada will perform almost 50 hours of music in seven venues over five days. Performances are nearly continuous in the seven venues so you are free to move around to hear and dance to many different groups. Special features include youth bands, dances classes, a pianorama with amazing soloists, and the JazzSea Jams for those who want to jam with other amateur musicians.
In addition, AFCDJS offers excellent monthly concerts with popular bands at the historic Lafayette Hotel, publishes the well-recognized Jazz Rambler, and sponsors exceptional education opportunities for jazz musicians of all ages. These education opportunities include our annual Adult Traditional Jazz Camp, monthly workshops for interested musicians who like to jam, and scholarships for high school students at summer jazz camps.
Finally, AFCDJS maintains an archive of over 2000 traditional jazz sheet music arrangements. These are available at a very reasonable price for schools and youth groups, plus other community, church, or professional music organizations. See our web site for details on all of these activities.
