The faculty will demonstrate vintage instrumental techniques for performing classic jazz in a classroom setting and supervise sessions played by the students in rotating groups. Instruction will include sectionals for front line and rhythm. Instructors will sit in with student groups to assist teaching. Some faculty members will double on other instruments. Special electives will be offered Friday evening. Pianos and basic drum kits will be provided for students. A limited number of string basses and tubas are available.

All Jazz Camp facilities are located at the Lafayette Hotel & Suites. For reservations, contact the hotel at 619.296.2101 and ask for the "jazz camp" rate. To be eligible for the $50 tuition discount, you must be registered at the Jazz Camp room rate and have submitted your application by Nov. 15. Students who reserve rooms using other promotional offers or discounts will not qualify for the tuition discount. No more than two students per room will receive the tuition discount. Tuition is $425, except as noted above ($375). This does not include transportation, lodging or meals. Jazz Camp registration begins on Thursday at 3:00 PM in the Lafayette Hotel Lobby. Jazz Camp instruction officially ends at noon on Sunday, but you and a guest (at no extra charge) are welcome to attend the AFCDJS Monthly Concert/Dance from 1:00 to 4:00 PM featuring the Jazz Camp Instructors.

Camp
Friday and Saturday, January 17-18: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM (rotating band instruction, front line and rhythm classes, electives on Friday night.)
Sunday, January 19: 9:00 AM to Noon. (Student concert)
Following the camp there is a concert/dance with the professional musicians from 1:00 to 4:00 PM that is open to the public as well as the camp participants.
In addition to our San Diego Jazz Fest, AFCDJS offers educational opportunities for youth and adults through our monthly workshops, annual adult jazz camp, and jazz camp youth scholarships.
