Voices of Hope: Survivors of the Holocaust Share their Stories

Author and speaker Fanny Krasner Lebovits shares her story of loss, resilience and survival during the Holocaust. Born in Liepaja, Latvia Lebovits was nineteen when Nazis invaded her town. She survived five concentration camps and went on to become a nurse with the United Nations. She wrote her memoir Memories, Miracles, and Meaning: Insights of a Holocaust Survivor at age 95. Now 96, she resides in La Jolla, California and is an active public speaker and community advocate.

Modeler Citizens Virtual Lecture Series

The San Diego Model Railroad Museum has debuted Modeler Citizens, a series of informative and entertaining presentations from an array of acclaimed railroad modelers and historians! 

The talks take place every other Thursday at 6 p.m. through the end of 2020 (excluding holidays) via Zoom Webinar. Margaret Harris, the museum’s Collections Curator, moderates as the featured speaker showcases their own model layout, shares a bit of San Diego railroading history, or discusses a topic of their expertise. Viewers can learn about the history of cross-border travel from railroad pro Mike Thornhill (Oct. 1), get “behind the scenes” of the mechanics and creation of the museum’s O Gauge layout from modeler Bob Wall (Dec. 10), see a fascinating home layout courtesy of award-winning radio host “Shotgun” Tom Kelly (Oct. 29), and more!
