The Center for Community & Cultural Arts (CCCA) is a learning partnership among the residents, artists, and cultural groups of southeastern San Diego and the San Diego Museum of Art, the San Diego Museum of Man, the Mingei International Museum. Building a two-way exchange of ideas and learning between Balboa Park and southeastern San Diego is the core of their work.
In 2008, The Legler Benbough Foundation and the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation began exploring ways to better connect the cultural institutions of Balboa Park and the arts and culture communities of southeastern San Diego. The museums were seeking to broaden their audience base and more closely connect with and learn from the cultural resources of the community, while residents expressed their desire for opportunities to exhibit and share their arts and traditions with the wider community. These conversations led to the creation of the partnership and the development of a programs and exhibition space in The Village at Market Creek.
