The San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) is pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural AMT FESTIVAL, in collaboration with Southwestern College and the Fleet Science Center. Taking place on February 2-4, this international, multi-site and multi-disciplinary art, music, and technology festival will present experimental, electronic, and data-driven ideas in a creative laboratory featuring cutting edge performances, music hacking, and demos that connect artists, students, technologists, researchers, thought leaders and businesses in a vibrant environment. Unique collaborations, new works created on site, premieres and demos of technology, and a visionary community will make the event an exciting and innovative landmark gathering for San Diego.
This community-driven pilot initiative will bring 25 local, national, and international professionals whose work is well regarded in the electronic and experimental music community. Each day will feature a variety of sessions that include panel discussions, lectures, demos, DIY educational workshops, and artist performances, exploring new ideas and trends that span contemporary themes in art, music, and technology. AMT aims to present a world-class festival and conference that is accessible to people of all ages, with ticket prices starting at just $10/session or $75 for the entire festival.
AMT will kick-off with an evening cocktail reception, keynote performances and panel discussion in the dome at the Fleet Science Center, featuring experimental electronic music and video content created specifically for the conference by Chipzel, David Rosenboom, Tom Erbe, Lana Z. Caplan, and Nick Lesley. On Friday, February 3rd, SDAI will host a full day of programs focusing on the intersection of art, technology and environmentalism and the integration of video game hardware or software in art, science and music. Throughout the day there will be DIY, hands-on workshops related to circuit-bending and utilizing arduinos, as well as a demo and performance by TECHNE (Suzanne Thorpe and Bonnie Jones). On the culminating day at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, the focus will be on data visualization and sonification, as well as trends in electronic and experimental music, culminating in a final performance and closing event.
