Modeler Citizens: Jewels of the Season

The Jewels of the Season, a collection of handcrafted ornaments, have been a holiday “must-see” at the Timken Museum of Art for more than 20 years. Each ornament features semi-precious gems, sequins, stones, and filigree collected around the world by the creators, San Diego artisans Florence Hord and Elizabeth Schlappi. Lynne Thompson, a personal friend of Schlappi, will speak on the wonderful history behind the ornaments. 

 

Modeler Citizens is a series of presentations presented by the San Diego Model Railroad Museum, where acclaimed modelers and friends of the museum discuss their expertise and adventures in railroading! The series is donation-based. Register by donating what you wish, and your gift will ensure that the San Diego Model Railroad Museum can continue programming now and well in to the future.

Join us for a special preview of San Diego Memories III: A TIME OF CHANGE – The 1960’s and 1970s on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 5:30p. As part of the San Diego History Center’s GIVING TUESDAY presentation , Roger Showley, author, historian and former San Diego Union Tribune writer will reveal some of the key moments in this period of our community’s past, as America experienced the Vietnam War, the civil rights movement, environmentalism and rock n’ roll.

Produced in partnership with the San Diego Union Tribune, and featuring the historic images of both archives, San Diego Memories III is a visually stunning look at this pivotal time in our region’s past. The book also features community memories and photographs submitted by the general public through community scanning events.
