SDAI 360 (Illumination)

Lead by Crit Stuart

Eleven installations from the exhibition Illumination: 21st Century Interactions with Art + Science + Technology are surveyed at the San Diego Art Institute in 2-3 minute videos with 360-degree interactive technology. (Video links are listed below.)

Climate change, global health, and sustainability are some of the most pressing concerns of the 21st century, especially for future generations. SDAI’s Illumination was positioned squarely at the intersection of art, science, and technology, and uses these interconnected fields to boost public understanding of contemporary issues and explore solutions, both real and imagined.

Darkest Nights, Brightest Stars

Jan 7 - ongoing

MOPA’s 15th Annual Juried Youth Exhibition uniquely combines imaginative artworks  responding to two separate thematic calls for submissions: Growing Up and Space. Youth artists in K-12 throughout San Diego and Tijuana were invited to share their unique interpretations of these seemingly disparate themes through photography and video. Through their lenses, powerful voices and common threads emerged.

The young artists rose above these unprecedented times to share compelling stories and perspectives about ambition, transformation, self identity, the earthly, and the ethereal. Finding solace and strength in art, their visions shine brightly into the future and remind us to see beyond what is present and known.

The HillBenders present WhoGrass!

Feb 3, 2022

In 2015, the HillBenders took venues, festivals, and clubs by storm with their acclaimed “Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry.” Inspired by the outpouring of support by The Who themselves and the thousands of supporting fans, The Hillbenders recently announced a follow-up project called WhoGrass!

WhoGrass! is a chronological journey of The Who’s legendary catalog through bluegrass instrumentation. All the way through The Who’s discography, the rolling banjo, intense dobro percussion, and thunderous vocals will have even the biggest Who fan pumping their fist and singing along!

As a band, The HillBenders deliver a mix of virtuoso musicianship and rock star vocals. They are one of the few groups that bridge the gap between the common music consumer and the bluegrass genre, selecting material that defies any hillbilly stigmas.
