Art Alive 2021

Jun 17 - Jun 20, 2021

Art Alive 2021 kicks off the summer with a weekend of newly imagined festive floral events. As always, enjoy spectacular floral interpretations of nearly 100 works of art throughout the Museum. The sights, scents, and sounds of the floral exhibition will spill onto the plaza for the family-friendly Open Air Floral Affair. Bloom Bash takes a hiatus for the Color Feast, a more intimate but full surround-sound, synesthetic outdoor dining experience. And the exclusive Premiere Dinner moves under the stars. Art Alive 2021 offers even more virtual festivities, with a 360 virtual tour of the floral exhibition, a virtual silent auction, at-home workshops for all ages, and more.

Living Room Lecture: Hominins, Hyenas, and Lions

May 13, 2021

The shift to increased meat consumption is one of the major adaptive changes in hominin dietary evolution and likely had important repercussions for the behavior of our early hominin ancestors. Meat-eating by hominins is well documented at Early Pleistocene (Oldowan) archaeological sites in East Africa by butchery marks on bones. While it is established that Oldowan hominins butchered mammal carcasses, there has been disagreement about whether these carcasses were hunted or scavenged, as well as disagreement about the nature of competition between hominins and large carnivores.

April 2021 Family Sunday from Home

Apr 18, 2021

To honor Earth Month, and reduce our waste we won’t be sending out physical kits for April’s Family Sunday from Home. Instead, we’ve developed a project using materials you can collect outside. The project is called, Nature Self-portraits and we’ll create them using leaves, flowers, branches and other natural materials! Join us as we focus our energies on our environment and what we can do to make it better. Reduce, reuse and recycle with this one-of-a-kind art project.

RSVP using the link below to receive instructions for making Nature Self-Portraits, our special tutorial video, and more information on our Facebook Live event. Look for leaves and fallen flowers while on a walk or stop by the park to pick up a few sticks in preparation for our Live event on April 18.
