Shady Ladies and Hop Heads Tour

Walking Tour and Pub Crawl

The Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of a new guided walking tour. Created in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of New Town San Diego, now downtown, the combination historical tour and pub crawl explores the historic Gaslamp District.

Follow your guide back in time to hear about the Gaslamp Quarter back when it was called the "Stingaree" and was infamous for its teeming red-light district. Learn about the historic buildings and colorful characters that populated them - and perhaps even meet a few of them along the way! Enjoy a drink - or just a seat - at three historic bars that are original to the Gaslamp Quarter.

The Shady Ladies and Hop Heads tour takes place once a month.

La Vista Memorial Park and Mortuary Memorial Day Celebration

May 29, 2017

La Vista Memorial Park and Mortuary, one of the San Diego's oldest and most historic cemeteries, will host its annual Memorial Day ceremonies Monday, May 29th, at 1:00 PM at its picturesque hilltop setting located at 3191 Orange St., in National City.

Over the years, La Vista’s Memorial Day activities have evolved into a community wide event supported enthusiastically by National City public officials and draws visitors from all over San Diego County.

"To us, Memorial Day is a chance for the entire community to come together, to pause and remember the lives given to protect us when we most needed it, and also to celebrate the sense of community that ensures here because of that sacrifice," said McCarthy. As a symbol of that community spirit, several public officials will roll up their sleeves to serve the lunch in what has become an important component of La Vista’s Memorial Day tradition.
