Eat Better Art: Eat Local!

Join us for our Eat Better Art class, Saturday, October 7 to explore local San Diego Cuisine. Celebrate our city and make the best San Diego has to offer! Our Eat Better Art classes at The New Childrens Museum are designed to bring parents and children together in the kitchen as they learn about good nutrition and create delicious dishes! These classes offer families a new way to think, play and create at the Museum. Each child and adult pair will create seasonal dishes and a simple art activity to take home with the assistance of our experienced Teaching Artists. Germán López is an esteemed timple player from Gran Canaria, an island making up an archipelago off the coast of Africa, pertaining to the nation of Spain. At the age of seven he entered the Conservatory of Music of Las Palmas, acquiring an eventual master’s degree in the latter in 2001. Since the age of ten, Germán has been performing publicly, which now includes collaborations with the symphony orchestra of Gran Canaria, festivals such as WOMAD, Circuits INJUVE, Expozaragoza, among others. As a conservatory-trained musicians, Germán López blend the the ancient traditions of the Canary Islands with musical virtuosity.

Unshelved: Cool Stuff from Storage

Unshelved offers a rare chance to see more than 200 specimens—beautiful and bizarre, big and small—from the Museum’s collection. Many of the objects have never been on public display.  It’s a rare “backstage” glimpse of the Museum’s storage areas. Arranged on shelves and in cases, Unshelved gives visitors the opportunity to revel in the natural world in all its beauty and strangeness.

Polar Extractions

The San Diego Watercolor Society presents “Polar Extractions,” an art exhibition juried by award-winning artist Mary Sievers. The exhibit runs December 1-30, 2017 at our Art Gallery in The ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. The Opening Reception is Friday, December 1st from 5-8 p.m. with 95-100 original ready-to-hang paintings for sale, plus wine, food and the fellowship of other art enthusiasts.The Gallery is open Weds-Sun, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and is free to the public.
