Wind & Water: Sailing in San Diego exhibit

Maritime Museum of San Diego introduces a rare new photographic collection of historic, classic, and wooden yachts racing and sailing in San Diego. The exhibit includes an impressive body of work to amaze and inspire visitors about sailing and San Diego Bay from America’s Cup to historic Museum vessels to traditional wooden boats sailed for recreation on the waterfront. In the new exhibit Wind & Water: Sailing in San Diego, images from international yachting and nautical sport photographer, Bobby Grieser, are paired with photographs from his close sailing and photography master friend Mark Albertazzi.  

 

The exhibit is included with general admission. General admission tickets let visitors explore all ten historic vessels and internal and below deck exhibit experiences.

Who Dunnit? Gaslamp Murder Mystery Adventure

Who Dunnit? Gaslamp is a scavenger hunt-style Murder Mystery Adventure that lasts approximately 2 hours. During the tour, you will visit several of the Gaslamp Quarter's most popular destinations while solving a murder mystery.

Hot on the heels of a killer through the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter, you will collect virtual clues and evidence to solve Who Dunnit?! Along the way, you will have to crack codes, decipher riddles and participate in crazy challenges in order to successfully complete your mission.

Summer Family Mural Project

Join us during "Food Truck Fridays" in Balboa Park! The Family Mural Project provides participants new and exciting ways to experience art.  Help paint a large mural in front of the Timken, then go inside for an art treasure hunt.  Each date has a unique activity, highlighting different paintings in the museum. Everyone in the family can be an artist and a detective, and discover the wonders within the Timken! Open to all ages; registration not required; admission is always free.

Take a High-Speed Naval History Tour Aboard A Legendary Swift Boat
Feel the history & power of the twin 12 cylinder Detroit Diesels as you take a behind the scenes 75 minute tour of San Diego’s military history. Enjoy this unique one of a kind adventure aboard our historic Swift Boat, PCF-816. Be a part of history.

Tour route heads under Coronado Bay Bridge, Naval Base San Diego, and then Naval Amphibious Base. It then heads back by the aircraft carrier basin and Naval Air Station North Island before returning to the Museum, plus a high speed run to feel the unique power of the twin supercharged engines.

First started Memorial Day 2014, this unique tour is narrated describing PCF 816’s role in the U.S., Malta, Viet Nam, Swift Boat sailors, and the above establishments on the Bay.
