Buddhist monks from China first introduced Kanshi(漢詩) to Japan. After that, in the latter half of the Edo period, it was the direct roots of today's Shigin that some private schools and clan schools had a curriculum of Shigin which added unique verses when reading Chinese poetry. The population of Shigin, which is said to be more than 5 million people worldwide, is increasing year by year. The big wave is spreading not only in Japan but all over the world. Especially in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany and Sweden, it is famous for having large poetry associations. In this monthly Shigin class, the Heisei Ginyu Kai(平晴吟友会) instructor Seiju Hiraki (師範 平木星寿) will focus on one poem during the class and students will learn the meaning of the poem and practice poetry.
